Caring for your building

After Your Installation

Once our team has delivered and installed your building, a little care will keep it looking great and performing well for years to come. Here’s what you need to know.

Year one

Leave the Timber to Settle

Please don’t paint in the first year

New timber needs time to season and acclimatise to the weather, and applying paint too early can trap moisture in the wood and prevent it acclimatising, which in turn can cause gaps or splitting to occur. After the first year, you can paint your building with a good-quality timber preservative in the colour of your choice.

Treating is recommended

We do recommend treating the timber with a good-quality preservative on or just after installation, and every year thereafter – it’s only painting we advise leaving for the first 12 months.

Post-installation care

Looking After Your Building

Once your building is installed, keeping it in great condition is straightforward and becomes part of your ownership:

  • Treat the external timber with a good-quality wood preservative on or just after installation, and every year thereafter, to prolong its life.
  • Regularly oil the door and window hinges to keep them operating smoothly.
  • Keep any guttering clear and check the roof covering from time to time.
  • Cut back nearby shrubs and trees so air can circulate around the building.
